Family Connection – Communities In Schools of Hancock County, Inc., is one of the 159 county collaborative organizations which make up the Georgia Family Connection statewide network. FC-CIS of Hancock County strives to improve the quality of life for children and families through collaboration. We want our families to be stable and self-sufficient. We want our kids to be healthy, ready to start school and do well when they get there; therefore FC-CIS of Hancock County, Inc., surrounds students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life.
Utilizing the CIS model, Communities In Schools National assists selected communities and schools throughout Georgia to develop, implement and support locally-defined, comprehensive education programs. The integrated student services model enables kids to graduate from high school and prepares them to succeed in college or a career.
The state office, Communities In Schools of Georgia, provides technical assistance, training, program evaluation, fundraising support, advocacy and communications to our local affiliates. Local affiliates partner with school districts and connect community resources to families and kids based on the needs of the community.
Key initiatives include: mentoring, parent engagement, literacy, youth leadership, after-school programs, and Performance Learning Centers® (PLCs). PLCS are small high schools geared toward students not succeeding in the traditional school setting.
